    SSL Certificate Validity in 2026: The 200-Day Limit and the Road to 47 Days

    Under CA/Browser Forum Ballot SC-081v3, the 200-day maximum has been in force since March 15, 2026. The limit drops to 100 days in March 2027 and 47 days in March 2029. Here is what already changed, what is still ahead, and how to get renewals automated before the next deadline.

If you bought a certificate before March 2026, its longer term is still valid until it expires; every certificate issued since then is capped at 200 days.

    Alongside the certificate lifetime reduction, the domain validation (DV) reuse period will also shrink from 398 days to just 10 days by 2029. This means domain ownership must be re-verified much more frequently, making automation not just beneficial but essential.
